Why get an HIV test?

• Being tested is the ONLY way to know for sure if you are infected with HIV.
• Knowing if you have HIV will allow you to protect your own health and to prevent others from becoming infected
• HIV infection responds best to medical treatments if they are begun as soon as possible after the infection takes place
• If you are infected, you can get the information and help you need to stay healthy

If there is a possibility that you have been exposed to HIV, then a test is always the best option. We know this is a challenging decision and one that you might be anxious about, but we also know that we have a mighty God who loves and cares for you.

OASIS will be right there to assist you through the very simple process of our free HIV testing. We encourage you to call our office for an appointment prior to testing, but will accept walk-ins. Please be assured that we hold everything in the strictest of confidence.

Here’s how it works:

We use the OraSure HIV mouth swab test. It is quick, easy, does not require blood samples, and the results are available after two weeks. The OraSure device uses a simple, 2-4 minute collection procedure, performed by our trained personnel. It completely eliminates the risk associated with handling needles and blood.

• A small pad on a plastic stick is placed between the gum and cheek, rubbed in a circular motion, and then allowed to remain in the closed mouth for a few minutes
• The pad is then placed in a container and sent to a medical lab where it is tested using techniques similar to those used with blood samples
• When we receive information back, we will contact you and share your results in complete confidentiality.

Research has found that people can be positive for HIV for up to ten years without any apparent symptoms. During this time, they can be at risk for inadvertently infecting those they love. Every day that you don’t know that you are positive is another day that you could have been receiving treatment to extend your life.
